The charm of cinema meets the magic of Lake Garda: Garda Cinema is born , a new Film Festival directed by the journalist and film critic Franco Dassisti . Organized by the La Decima Musa association , Garda Cinema will be held from 11 to 15 June 2025 : the municipality of Garda, on the Veronese shores of the lake, will host five days of screenings, meetings with the authors and protagonists of Italian cinema in a landscape of unique charm.
The beating heart of the event will be the 5 evenings on the lakeside to reward the best of the Italian film season in the presence of special guests who will accompany their films. The International Short Film Competition will also increase the cultural offering of the festival , which will see the works divided into two sections, fiction films and documentaries, compete, for each of which a cash prize will be awarded. A special mention is also planned for the best animated short.
The theme of the year, which will serve as a common thread throughout the selection of films in competition, is “ Beyond the Border ” understood in its many facets: overcoming territorial borders, but also barriers to discover what is foreign to us.
"On the basis of my four-year experience directing the Bardolino Film Festival, supported by my long-time collaborators, critics Boris Sollazzo and Alessandro De Simone, I enthusiastically accepted the proposal of the La Decima Musa association and the Municipality of Garda to direct Garda Cinema, the new Film Festival that is the natural evolution of that experience" comments artistic director Franco Dassisti "A festival that confirms the proposal of great cinema on the lake shore and that looks beyond territorial barriers, to embrace everything that is beyond the horizon, everything that invites us to measure ourselves against the other. For this reason, the watchword of this edition, the theme with which the films in competition will have to measure themselves, is Beyond the border" .
"Following the experience gained as councilor for culture, together with a group of friends and enthusiasts, at the end of last year I founded the association La Decima Musa which aims to organize and manage cultural events in the area. I believe that the beauty of the places on Lake Garda can represent an ideal setting for high-level artistic events, offering opportunities for pleasant enrichment not only to the inhabitants but also to the numerous tourists. Strengthened by the knowledge and relationships created, we proposed to the Municipality of Garda to organize Garda Cinema, the first event of its kind for this splendid location, but in reality a logical evolution of the Bardolino Film Festival held over the past four years. And with sincere and heartfelt enthusiasm, the municipal administration of Garda has embraced our proposal" declares Nica Currò, President of the association La Decima Musa . "Our aim, as an association, is to promote, through cinematographic art, current issues, innovation, sustainability, encouraging meetings and collaborations also with schools and to bear witness, at the same time, to the vitality and charm of the Garda area, promoting its artistic and landscape heritage. We are enthusiastic about this new challenge that represents a step forward for the festival that is preparing for an even brighter future".
The festival will have two main locations: the Sala Congressi di Garda, equipped with cutting-edge projection technology, which will host the films in the competition, while the gala evenings will enliven the open-air arena set up in the evocative courtyard of the Town Hall, overlooking the Regina Adelaide lakeside.
"As an administration we are convinced that it is increasingly important to give space to cultural events of substance, capable of promoting dialogue, reflection and discussion. We need it, as individuals and as a community. This is why we are very happy to host Garda Cinema this year, which will be the flagship cultural event of the summer season. A moment of meeting and sharing for citizens but also for our many tourists" comments the Mayor of Garda, Davide Bendinelli.
In the festival logo, created by graphic designer Alberto Filippini , the blue inspired by the waters of Garda draws a “bissa”, the traditional lake boat, a symbol of a strong bond with the territory that hosts the festival, but also a metaphor for the journey of cinema beyond all borders, in perfect harmony with the theme of this edition.
Garda Cinema is preparing to become an unmissable summer event on the lakeside for all cinema lovers, in a landscape context of suggestive beauty.
